Often leaders are selected for their
technical skills, and ability to get things done. They also tend to be the ones that express
their opinions and make decisions quickly.
The loudest ones in the room or the ones playing golf with the current
CEO are often selected for the top roles in companies.
Do these people make the best leaders? Not necessarily. Studies show that great leaders are the ones
that focus on people, care more about the company and people than themselves
and are focused on creating a great culture with excellent values and behaviors
that are lived.
So, when you select your next leaders make
sure they are liked and respected, and have great people skills. The difference between an individual contributor
and a leader are the ability to influence and work with others. Look and train for people skills not ego and you will
be amazed at the results.
